No serious injuries were reported following a four-vehicle accident at 1 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 53, seven miles south of Poplar Bluff, although four people were transported to area hospitals.
The chain reaction accident was caused when a 2015 Nissan Altima traveling southbound struck the rear of a 2009 Volkswagen Beetle, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report.
The Beetle then struck a 2020 GMC Terrain, which then struck a 2008 Mercury Mariner, according to troopers.
All of the vehicles were southbound.
One individual was taken from the scene by Air Evac with moderate injuries and three people were taken by ambulance to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Cynthia M. Gonzalez, 26, of Senath, the driver of the Terrain, was flown to a Memphis, Tennessee, hospital.
A 3-year-old passenger in her vehicle was transported with minor injuries.
Also transported with minor injuries was Katie E. Dobbins, 25, of Poplar Bluff the driver of the Altima, and Brittney Y. Johnson, 30, of Kennett, the driver of the Beetle. Dobbins was not wearing a seatbelt, troopers said.
The Mariner was driven by Elizabeth Ellis, 74, of Rector, Arkansas. No injuries were reported from this vehicle, MSHP reports.
