The Pride in Your Ride Car Show from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday and Saturday is a community benefit to help provide backpacks or school supplies for students in need, and it is sponsored by the Bluff City Eagles #3730 JOE. It will be held at the Eagles building at 1400 S. Broadway.

Admission to the enter the show can be school supplies or a backpack valued at $20, or a $20 donation. All proceeds will go to children in need so they may be prepared for school.

All wheels are welcome, said Christina Vanlear, one of the group’s sponsors. There will be two grand prizes given for each day, one People’s Choice Award and one Kid’s Choice Award. The prizes will be awarded Saturday.

Vanlear said, “There is going to be lots of door prizes given away during the two-day event. The first 50 people who register both days will be given goodie bags. At 2 p.m. both days we will be doing drawings, as everyone who enters and donates will receive a ticket for the drawings.”

There will be 50/50 drawings, a dunk tank for kids, music, and the JOE members will sell hot dogs with a bag of chips and a drink for $5.

The needed items purchased through the event’s proceeds will be given away Aug. 19 at Goodies from Chris, located next to the Eagles on Ditch Road.

The Junior Order of Eagles was organized in December to help Poplar Bluff area youth between the ages of 8 and 20 learn Eagles traditions, as well as gain a sense of purpose. The program is designed to help the members learn teamwork, organization and philanthropy to help themselves and others in the community.

Since December, Junior Eagles have raised $500 for St. Jude, $250 for Care to Learn, donated 20 backpacks with bedrolls to FCC, and held a spaghetti feed, a bake sale and two clothing drives which helped close to 200 families. The food drive in July helped feed 203 families and raised $450 towards the next food truck for another food drive.

“All the money this amazing group of youth raises goes right back into our community, which needs some serious love,” Vanlear said.

Anyone wanting more information about car show or the JOE program may call 573-707-2024.

“We have one meeting a month on the second Saturday,” Vanlear said.
