The Doniphan Middle School Marching Band is already getting into the school spirit. After a week-long band camp, members gave a surprise performance in downtown Doniphan on July 21. Although school start until Aug. 23, many teachers and students have already been on campus preparing for the new school year.
Band director Donny Falk led the surprise performance for The Prospect-News and other businesses. Their repertoire included “Born To Be Wild” and “Go Big Gold,” both of which they learned in one week at band camp, Falk stated on social media.
He also said the incoming seventh grade class gained marching experience and will play with the high school marching band in the Labor Day Parade on Sept. 2.
“These students have been working hard all week at camp. They’ve learned field marching techniques, parade marching techniques, and have already memorized their marching music. This is a lot of work for 7th graders but they are proud of what they’re doing and want to proudly represent their school and community. We’re going to have an awesome marching band this year,” Falk wrote.
Special thanks were extended to Here’s Your Sign, Casey’s, Lemonade House Grille, the Doniphan Post Office, The Rabbit Hole, The Prospect-News, Current River Heritage Museum, Downtown Music and Water District No. 1 for their support of the band, as well as passersby who stopped to listen to the downtown performance.
