Hicks Animal Hospital has come a long way since Catherine Hicks founded the practice in a trailer in 1983.
With a passion for animals and a desire to provide exceptional care, Hicks said she started her practice in a small, outdated facility.
“I was a biology major and at that time there were very few females going to school for this,” explained Hicks.
After 30 years in practice, Hicks Animal Hospital relocated to a brand new, spacious building, situated off of PP Highway on County Road 469. The new, 6,500-square-foot facility boasts modern amenities and advanced technology.
Hicks explained she attributes her career choice to her lifelong love for animals. Her passion, combined with a biology major, led her to pursue a veterinary career when very few women were venturing into the field. Over her four decades of practice, Hicks said she has witnessed significant advancements in veterinary technology, which have made her job easier and enhanced the quality of care she provides to her patients.
She will also be recognized for being inducted into the Missouri Veterinary Honor Roll on August 5, in Jefferson City.
Office manager Lisa Bradham describes Hicks as a great doctor and person.
“She is a great boss. She is very understanding and she has been going gangbusters. She works circles around everybody here,” Bradham said.
Long-time employee Karen Harrelson, a veterinary technician, attests to Hicks’ big heart and praises her for being caring and supportive, both toward animals and employees.
“She’s got a big heart, for the animals and for her employees,” said Harrelson.
The practice currently employs between 25 and 30 individuals, according to Bradham.
