The Twin Rivers R-10 School District recently held a board meeting to discuss and approve several agenda items. The meeting, held on Thursday, June 22, covered various topics ranging from policy updates to budget amendments.
The agenda for the meeting was approved with an additional discussion on Special Education therapy contracts, SPED positions and ESSER proposals.
The board approved the newly revised CSIP, also known as the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan, as well as the minutes from the prior month’s board meeting.
A budget amendment for the 2022-23 fiscal year was approved by the board. Stephanie Acup was granted permission to make necessary adjustments to the budget to align it with actual revenues and expenditures.
Addressing the issue of salaries, the board approved the 2023-24 salary schedules, which will see an approximate 2.53% increase on the base for each position. The certified salary schedule will have an $800 increase on the base, while the non-certified salary schedule will see a 2.53% increase for each position.
A revision of emergency preparedness guidelines was approved. These guidelines will be distributed and posted at all campuses to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff in times of crisis, the board stated.
The board also authorized the purchase of new social studies curriculum for grades 3-12. This curriculum, funded by the ESSER I program, will according to school officials, enhance the learning experience in this subject area at an approximate cost of $45,000.
Utilizing the remaining ESSER I funds, the board approved allocations for school supplies at a cost of $25,000, technology at $20,000 and a three-year subscription to Board Docs Software at a cost of $12,000. These investments are expected to contribute to the overall improvement of educational resources and administrative efficiency within the district.
Various SPED therapy bids were considered and the board approved the following providers: BizZee Kids for Occupational/Physical Therapy; Shellie Yarbro and Speak to Me Consultings; Nancy Worse, for Speech Therapy and Infinity Interventions; and Jacy McBroom for Behavior Therapy.
Salary guidelines for Special Education teachers with substitute certificates were approved a rate of $25,000 per year for these teachers.
In terms of personnel, the board approved the hiring of several individuals for both certified and non-certified positions. Noteworthy hires include Kristen McGowen as a fifth and sixth grade science teacher, Peyton Howerton and Lindsey Austin as sped teachers, Angela Pence as a computer teacher, Shelly Switt as a part-time math interventionist and Rebecca Shock as an art teacher.
Additionally, non-certified positions were filled with Meagan Leach, Ashley Maddock and Rachel Suiter as aides, James Bollinger as a custodian and Cassie Christian as a vision interventionist.
For the upcoming 2023-24 school year, the board also welcomed Maci Shearer as the high school assistant softball coach and Marisa Vancil as the high school volleyball coach.
The next scheduled board meeting for Twin Rivers School Board is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 11.
