Youth from Butler, Wayne, Ripley and several surrounding counties recently enjoyed an educational experience at the 4-H camp held at Camp Allen in Greenville.

The day camp event offered a variety of activities, including archery, food preparation safety lessons, a video production workshop, fishing, snake education and water activities.

The day’s festivities began with a flagpole gathering, followed by organizing the children into groups based on their respective counties. Throughout the day, events were scheduled into hour-long blocks to ensure all children could participate and gain knowledge about the outdoors.

Experienced mentors instructed campers on fishing skills, such as baiting a hook, casting and patiently waiting for the fish to bite. A nearby swimming pool and water slide provided a break, with lifeguards on duty to protect the children’s safety during swimming and other water activities.

For lunch, campers were given the choice of hamburgers or hot dogs with French fries and a cookie, which they enjoyed in the dining hall area of the camp.

The camp, according to organizers, aimed to provide a well-rounded experience for the children.

Instructors and mentors were present throughout the camp event to offer guidance and instruction in the various activities offered.

Each child received a tote bag at the start of the event, containing a t-shirt, water bottle, lanyard and name tag.
