— Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon, 12 p.m. May 1. WHERE Holiday Inn Poplar Bluff. COST $15 for members, $20 for prospective members. WHAT This month’s guest speaker is Dr. Aaron Cornman, the new Poplar Bluff R-I Superintendent.

— Teen Writer’s Group, 4:30 p.m. May 3. WHERE Poplar Bluff Municipal Library Main Branch. COST Free. WHAT Gather together with other young writers in order to share your work, get feedback, support and encourage each other in your writing journeys. This group meets every other month. Open to grades 7-12. No library card is required.

Second St. COST $40 WHAT A program from the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department, the league is open to those age 13 or older. Games will start May 22 and be played at Poplar Bluff Middle School and Hillcrest.

— Spring Convention for the 8th District Democratic Women’s Group, 6:30 p.m. May 5, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. May 6 WHERE Holiday Inn WHAT Will include speakers, raffles and the announcement of the Woman of the Year.

— 60s Murder Mystery at the Monte Carlo Casino Fundraiser, 6:30 p.m. May 5. WHERE National Stars and Strips Museum, Bloomfield. COST $50 per person and $100 per couple. WHAT Enjoy delicious food, drinks, and a thrilling game of whodunit! Don’t miss out on this one-of-a-kind experience to support The Stars and Stripes Museum and Library. Prizes will be given for Best Detective, Best Dressed, Best Performance, and Most Chips. Chips for casino play will be available for purchase separately at the event. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

— Free Country Carnival, 10 a.m. May 6. WHERE Beechwell Church, 38220 Hwy H, Campbell. COST Free. WHAT Thos event includes games and prizes, train rides, bounce houses, a gospel puppet house and a petting zoo. — Derby Party 2023, noon Saturday, May 6 WHERE Bullwinkle’s Lounge WHAT Includes food and drink specials and a Derby hat contest.

— “One Last Time for Little Walter” celebration of life and fundraiser, 3 p.m. Saturday, May 6 WHERE Eagles Club on Ditch Road. COST Admission $10. WHAT There will be free food, an auction and gun raffle, 50/50 drawing and live music.

— Kentucky Derby viewing party, 4 p.m. Saturday, May 6 WHERE VFW Post 3485, Ball Park Road, Doniphan WHAT This fundraiser for the Linda and Bob Holland Memorial Coat Drive, will include Derby-inspired drinks and food. Doors open at 4 p.m., race starts at 5:45 p.m. Awards for best hat and best dressed.

— Fiber arts exhibit opening, 6 p.m. Saturday, May 6 WHERE Margaret Harwell Art Museum WHAT This show from the Missouri Fiber Artists includes quilts, weavings, embroidery and more. The show will be open through June 25.

— Qulin Lion’s Club Dinner, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. May 7. WHERE Qulin Lion’s Club building. COST $12 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12. WHAT Menu is meatloaf, fried chicken, green beans, corn, cheesy mashed potatoes, mac & cheese white beans, salad and dessert. Drinks are also provided.

Tickets can be purchased at Myrtles and the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce for dinner, which will be spaghetti from Costello’s. The concession stand will also be open.
