Bruce McIver
Bruce Malcom McIver, 85, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, died Sunday, April 16, 2023, at St. Francis Medical Center, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Mr. McIver was born May 1, 1937 in Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, son of the late Grover Neil McIver and Emma Robinson.
Bruce was hard working all his life. As a teenager he worked for his future father-in-law, Lawrence Garrett, at the saw mill, and hauling logs. He later began a career in road construction. After retiring from the Local 513 Union in 1975, he founded McIver Trucking, which he proudly owned and operated until June of 2022. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed visiting coffee shops.
On Nov. 8, 1953, he married Betty Muriel Garrett McIver. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2010.
Surviving are two children: Steven Lynn (Linda) McIver, and James “Jim” Lee (Cindy) McIver, both of Poplar Bluff; six grandchildren: Christy (Joshua) Carnes, Steven (Monica) McIver, Jr. MaKala McIver, Andrew Policht, Ryan Policht, and Elizabeth (Joe) Cornelison; six great-grandchildren: Wilson, Zelda, Phoebe, Alex, Paisyn, and Finley; two siblings: Peggy Kunsman of San Diego, California, and Terry Michael McIver of Indianapolis, Indiana; a special nephew: Paul (Joellen) White of St. Peters, Missouri; great niece and nephews: Colleen, Caeben, and Caleb; and a special cousin: Pearl Brock of Coudersport, Pennsylvania. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by four siblings: Jane McIver, Grover “Bucky” McIver, Richard “Dick” McIver, and Dennis Patrick McIver.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Fellowship General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the church sanctuary with Rev. Byron Beck and Jack Woodfin officiating. Burial will follow at Black River Cemetery in Williamsville, Missouri.
