Roy Walker
Roy Gene Walker, 88, of Poplar Bluff, died March 15, 2023 in Sikeston, Missouri.
Mr. Walker was a devout Christian and a member of the Green Forest Church of Christ of Poplar Bluff. Born Sept. 9, 1934, in Melbourne, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Hubert and Opal (Hodges) Walker.
He was a dedicated employee of Missouri Pacific Railroad, that later became Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years starting his career in 1953 as a telegrapher translating Morse code working his way to Train Master. He retired in 1991. He loved animals and the outdoors, especially boating and water skiing. He was also an avid hunter, a sport he enjoyed with his family.
He is survived by his son: Roy Dennis (Tammie Jo) Walker of Poplar Bluff; his daughter: Teresa (Ricky) Whitehead; five grandchildren: Jessica (Terry) Luce, Lindsay (Harvey) Free, Adam (Kathy) Whitehead, Kyle Walker, Cody (Melissa) Whitehead; and four great-grandchildren: Chaney Trout, Harlyn Free, Paylin Free and Arthur Whitehead; and a brother Gary Allen Walker.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Retta Sue (Gower) Walker, his sister Wanda Wycoff, and his brother Rayburn Dewayne Walker.
Graveside service for family at Poplar Bluff City Cemetery will be conducted by Landess Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association under the direction of Landess.
