The light at the intersection of Shelby and Oak Grove roads has been repaired. A malfunction in the control module box of the stoplight prevented the light from working properly Tuesday.
Poplar Bluff Street Superintendent Jerry Lawson explained the hold-up on repairs was largely due to shipping delays.
“The parts were old and had technical problems that we could not reset,” said Lawson. “We went through our older model boxes that we had replaced before and could not find any components to fix it.”
In the past, according to Lawson, city workers were fortunate enough to be able to dig through the “boneyard” for parts, but many of them are no longer interchangeable.
Lawson said that after some searching and help from MODOT they were able to locate someone in Arkansas with the needed parts.
“The driver just happened to be in Fayetteville working and he had one of these boxes on his truck, so he was able to leave early this morning and came over here and got everything put in,” said Lawson. He went on to say the city will be ordering an additional box now “since we don’t really have any scrap or anything else. So if we have a box fail, we’ll just put the new box in and use the failed box components when we can to repair the others.”
The flashing red light signal at the intersection left some drivers confused. According to Lawson, a flashing red light should be treated as a stop sign.
