Herman James Eggers, 79, of Poplar Bluff, passed away on Dec. 27, 2022, at his home in Poplar Bluff. Herman was born on Oct. 1, 1943, to Herman and Frieda Mae (Smith) Eggers in Poplar Bluff. He married Geneva Lucille Robbins on June 20, 1965, in a double wedding ceremony, alongside Robert Perry Balmas and Patricia Ann Robbins, on the lawn of the Robbins’ farm in Monett, Missouri. Herman James Eggers, 79, of Poplar Bluff, passed away on Dec. 27, 2022, at his home in Poplar Bluff.

Herman was born on Oct. 1, 1943, to Herman and Frieda Mae (Smith) Eggers in Poplar Bluff. He married Geneva Lucille Robbins on June 20, 1965, in a double wedding ceremony, alongside Robert Perry Balmas and Patricia Ann Robbins, on the lawn of the Robbins’ farm in Monett, Missouri. Herman said he had a 60-year love affair with Geneva.

Herman graduated from Neelyville High School in 1961. Lifelong learning and education were important to him. He graduated from the School of the Ozarks in 1963 and the University of Missouri in 1965. He completed a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Missouri in 1971.

Herman visited all 50 states during his employment and retirement. He served in the United States Army from 1966-1968 and was posted in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Following his honorable discharge, he worked in the Farm Credit System for 25 years and retired as Vice President of CoBank with responsibilities in Illinois and Missouri. Retirement was a change of direction as he farmed with his brother, Richard Eggers, near Harviell and Neelyville for more than 20 years. The family enjoyed travel with numerous trips to Colorado to snow ski and Florida for shelling.

Herman is survived by his wife, Geneva Eggers; daughters, Lynn Eggers-Meyer (Rev. Kendall Meyer) and Brenda Bruggeman (Dr. Jerry Bruggeman); and grandchildren Christian, Caleb, and Colin Bruggeman; Michaela, Benjamin, and Abigail Meyer; his siblings Joyce Eakins and Richard Eggers (Patricia Ann) and brother-in-law Orville Duane Allen.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Frieda Eggers; sibling Alice Geraldine Allen; brothers in law Charles Newman and Kenny Eakins.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29th, 2022, at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services in Poplar Bluff.

Funeral services will be on Friday, Dec. 30th, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, in Poplar Bluff, with Rev. Justin Sponaugle, officiating. Burial will take place at the City Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the College of the Ozarks or Zion Lutheran Church, Poplar Bluff.
