James David Hicks Sr., 75, of Fisk, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, in the very same house he was born in on Oct. 21, 1947.

He was the son of the late Ernest and Agnes Hicks. On Aug. 26, 1967, he married Carol Ann Meehan. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2011.

James was a lifelong farmer. He raised cattle and pigs and enjoyed excavating. He was a self-taught musician and enjoyed playing guitar.

He was quick witted and always had a remark, whether funny or wise. It was always a good idea to listen when he spoke because there was a high probability that you’d receive some subtle advice you would cherish forever. He was a jokester and loved to make others laugh. He had the same jokes on rotation and told them often to both new and old audiences. He was a very compassionate and generous person and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

James is survived by two children: Junior (Kerri) Hicks of Fisk, and Kimberly (Jeffrey) Moore of Greenville, Missouri; six grandchildren: Jordan Moore, Kaelyn (Alfonso) Gutierrez, Jeren (Amanda) Hicks, Kerrigan Moore, Jalen Hicks, and Keaton Hicks; four siblings: Ruth Ward and Hazel Coleman, both of Poplar Bluff, and Marion Hicks and Patricia Whitesell of Fisk.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by five siblings: Lance, Bill, Jess, and Bob Hicks, and Eathel Payton.

Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, at White Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Brown Chapel Cemetery in Broseley.
