Anyone who wants to donate to the 45th annual Toys 4 Tots giveaway will need to get that done by Dec. 16, says Toys 4 Tots Coordinator Jerry Lynxwiler.

Drop-off locations for toys are at all four Ripley County Dollar General Stores and Tractor Supply in Doniphan.

The Toys 4 Tots trailer will be located at Current River Marine. Toys can be taken there and dropped off during business hours.

Monetary donations can be made at the local Southern Bank or by contacting Lynxwiler at 573-429-6270.

Distribution will begin at noon, Dec. 17 at the St. Benedict Parish Hall. There will be a brief program by the church just prior to the giveaway.

“We want kids to come in and pick out their toy, just like they would do at a toy store, but instead, in this case the toys are free,” says Lynxwiler.

Babies and youngsters up to 12 years in age are eligible to receive the gifts.

In addition to toys, a $1,500 donation was received which was earmarked for children’s warm weather clothing. “Therefore, we will have a supply of coats and gloves to give away, too,” says Lynxwiler.

“The outerwear can be picked up from our trailer after the kids pick up their toys,” he says.

Toys 4 Tots has been generously supported by businesses and private donors across Ripley County, many of whom have given their support faithfully every year, through collections, donations and by purchasing raffled and auction items, says Lynxwiler.

One example is the crew at Casey’s General Store. “I really appreciate their support. Every year the employees put out a jar for Toys 4 Tots,” he says.

He went on to say, “I can’t thank this community enough for all they do. Last year we were able to give toys to about 478 kids, and this year, we hope to reach at least 500,” said Lynxwiler.
