Animal Welfare Alliance Director Jessica West spent the majority of her day Saturday at Petsmart in Poplar Bluff uniting pets with families.

“Animals in Black was a great success,” West said.

She explained that black animals have the highest numbers in shelters and are often overlooked. During the special adoption event, the AWA was able to place five cats and five dogs in their furever homes.

“Today, 10 of them got their happy endings and that makes the early morning and long hours worth it. This has been a great event and a great day,” said West. “I would like to thank our staff and volunteers that put in the hard work — it doesn’t go unnoticed.”

If you would like to help support the shelter monetarily, by volunteering or adopting a pet, call the AWA at 573-840-0664 or visit www.awasemo.org. The AWA No-Kill Shelter is located at 1904 S. Westwood Blvd.
