Poplar Bluff and Butler County firefighters were called to three structure fires during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Poplar Bluff firefighters responded to a structure fire at 10:15 a.m. Sunday at 1921 N. Fifth St. with some of them on the scene for nearly three hours. Heavy smoke was coming from the eves and soffits of the home when firefighters arrived. The crews searched the home for residents while ventilating the roof to remove smoke and heat, and to check the attic. Making their way into a bedroom, they extinguished the bulk of the fire.

The cause of the fire was undetermined and the Missouri State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident The firefighters used 1,000 gallons of water to put out the fire.

The property is owned Joe Joiner. Among those living in the home were Rondal Pruett and Ian Cole.

A crew was called back to stand by for additional calls. Also at the scene were Butler County EMS, Municipal Utilities, Spire Gas and the Poplar Bluff Police Department.

County firefighters responded at 7:38 p.m. Thursday to a structure fire in the 800 block of County Road 558. The residence was an unoccupied and abandoned structure and was a fully involved fire when the 10 firefighters and three trucks arrived.

At 12:37 a.m. Sunday, eight firefighters and three fire trucks responded to structure fire at 8255 Highway T, Wappapello. The abandoned building was fully engulfed when crews arrived.

Both county structures were lost.
