Roger Dale Strickland, 72, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022.

Roger was born May 22, 1950, to George and Verna (Rose) Strickland near Greenville, Missouri.

Roger was of the Baptist faith. Roger’s life revolved heavily around his career as a coach and educator in the Poplar Bluff School District. Even outside of school, he volunteered as a coach with the Park Department teams. Roger served a Poplar Bluff school board member for two terms. He watched and helped shape many generations of this small community. He had a positive and charismatic personality that was contagious to others around him. Roger enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, and cattle farming. He was a hard worker and who rarely complained. His favorite thing to say when he walked in a room was “it’s a great day!”.

Roger is survived by two children, Jessica (Nick) Libla and Josh Strickland; two stepchildren, Gale (Robert) Shaulk and DeeAnn (Raymond) Anderson; one brother, Donald Strickland; four sisters, Millie Newton, Kathyrn Davenport, Carolyn Cohoon, and Sharon Whitener; four grandchildren, Bryce, Aaron, Dylan, and baby boy Libla; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bill, Bud, and Bob Strickland; two sisters, Odessa, and Barbara Strickland.

Visitation will be held from 1 -2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022, at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Funeral service will follow beginning at 2 p.m. with Pastor Greg Gilberto officiating. Burial will take place at Camp Eight Union Grove Cemetery in Wayne County.
