The weekend before Halloween on Monday, Oct. 31, some area churches will be celebrating the holiday by giving away candy and fall experiences with trunk-or-treat events open to children in the community.

Fellowship Church at 3581 N. Westwood Blvd. is starting the holiday-giving early. The congregation will set up in their parking lot from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. In addition to candy, they will give out hot dogs, chips and drinks.

On Sunday, Oct. 30, several churches will be participating in trunk-or-treat events on the day before Halloween.

Second Baptist church will distribute candy from 5-7 p.m. Church members will be parked with trunks open on the church’s parking lot at 503 W. Pine.

The congregation of First Church of God will park along the path behind their church at 3482 S. Westwood Blvd. They will be there from 5-7 p.m. with trunks open to give out treats. Anticipating a chill fall night, First Church will have a fire set up and tended by church members. They will also give away free hot chocolate and cider and supply pumpkins for the children to take home.

First Baptist Church on 551 N. Westwood Blvd. is hosting their community-wide candy event from 6-8 p.m.

Rombauer General Baptist on 119 Erb St. in Rombauer is adding a hayride to their Halloween event. Children attending will have the chance to take a 20-minute ride on the rural roads around the church in a trailer pulled by a truck driven by church member Ronnie Farrar.

“A hay ride is just one of those things says it’s fall,” said Tiffany Gough, wife of Pastor Brandon Gough. “It’s something all kids should experience at least once.”

The festivities at Rombauer General Baptist will start 5 p.m. In addition to candy, the church members will give away free hot dogs and chili.

Trunk or Treat also will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at Second Baptist Church, 503 W. Pine Blvd.
