Betty Ann Rennison, 89, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2022 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
She was born on Sept. 14, 1933, to Duncan and Dorothea (Nerenz) Mangnall in Ekalaka, Montana. When she was small, she and her parents moved to Carter County, Missouri where they settled near Ellsinore, Missouri.
On Oct. 9, 1953, she married George Edward Rennison at her parents’ home after graduating from Ellsinore High School. They had five children -Sheree (Rennison) Gholson, Shirley (Rennison) Kendrick, Janet (Rennison) White, Duncan Rennison and George Bryan Rennison. After she divorced from George, she returned to school at Three Rivers Community College and later Southeast Missouri State University and earned a teaching degree. Betty spent many years teaching junior high math and remedial language arts in schools in the East Carter County R-II School System in Ellsinore and Grandin, Missouri. Betty was very involved with both Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in rural Ellsinore and later Grace Christian Fellowship in Poplar Bluff.
Betty loved to read and it was rare that she did not have a book nearby. She also loved animals, gardening and crafts and she loved to watch the many different kinds of birds that would come to her many bird feeders.
Betty was preceded in death by her father and mother, Duncan Edward and Dorothea Mangnall; her son, Duncan Rennison of rural Ellsinore, as well as three of her grandchildren, Michelle Patterson, Heather Feyerabend (Chris) and Brandon White; a son-in-law, George Kendrick; a brother, James Mangnall; and a brother-in-law, Victor Schmecker.
She is survived by her daughters, Sheree Gholson (Dean) of Poplar Bluff, Shirley Kendrick of Saint Louis, Janet White (Steve) of Ellsinore and her son, Bryan Rennison (Sheila) of Rolla; and her grandchildren, Jeff Latimer (Tammy), Chris Latimer (Christina), Dean Alan Gholson (Azucena), Daniel Gholson (Kelly), Kathryn Kendrick, John Kendrick, Jennifer Tyler (Jeff) and Shawn White (Kira), Denice Josserand (Blake) and Daniel Rennison; and her brother, Tom Mangnall (Betty Sue); her sister, Virginia Schmecker, and her sisters-in-law, May Mangnall, Sue Archer, Virginia Corder and Vivian Hicks.
She also is survived by 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.
Betty’s memorial service will Friday, Oct. 28, 2022. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. with the funeral service being held at 2:30 p.m. in the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore. Burial will be in the Pine Lawn Cemetery next to Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in rural Ellsinore. The family requests that memorials in Betty’s name be made to the American Humane Society, the United Gospel Rescue Mission or the charity of your choice.
