George Wilburn Hemby, 93, of Puxico, Missouri, passed away on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, at Puxico Nursing Home in Puxico.
Mr. Hemby was born June 5, 1929, in Wappapello, Missouri, son of the late George Washington Samuel Pollard and Bessie Evaline Hemby. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from October of 1951 until October of 1953. On Oct. 16, 1948, he married Sarah Joyce Mitchell. She preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 2011.
George is survived by his two sons: Tom (Deanna) Hemby of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Ron Hemby of Nashville, Tennessee; three granddaughters: Natalie Wrucke, Vanessa Ruesler, and Amelia Hemby; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one daughter-in-law: Cindy Hay Hemby; six brothers: Sherdian, Claude, Roy, Lyman, Buford, and Mirl Hemby; and two sisters: Violet Lowe and Nola Silva.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022, at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk, Missouri, with a VFW tribute ceremony at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at Life Chapel Assembly of God in Puxico, with Rev. Mike Henson officiating. Interment will follow at the Puxico Cemetery with full military honors. The family has requested that any memorial contributions be made in the form of a donation in George Hemby’s name to Life Chapel Assembly of God: PO Box 282 Puxico, MO. 63960.
