Area residents and musicians gathered Saturday to enjoy good company and good music for a good cause.
The 11th annual Wappstock event was hosted by The Camp at Wappapello Lake to raise funds to help send local children to Boy Scout, Girl Scout and church camps.
“I love it. I’ve been out before and it’s just nice to have live music to relax to and the cause for it is awesome. To see the community come together and enjoy their time and raise money for camp is just awesome,” said attendee Jada White.
Wappstock was created as a reunion of sorts for the Wappapello community to gather around and enjoy some local bands jamming out while raising money to help children go to camp, according to organizers. Any funds not used for the next year’s event is donated to local scout troops and church camps, the said.
The event included live music, dancing and food. The live band line up included: Hickory Smoke, Dr. Fever & The Venus Flytrap, Scott Haggard (Merle Haggard’s son), Chas Watkins, Jess Emery, Just Enough, As-Is and Back Road Drive.
The event had a successful turnout, with plans to come back for their 12th event in August 2023, according to organizers.
