John J. Pershing VA Medical Center has accepted a $3,000 donation from the SSGT Eric W. Summers Play for Honor Golf Tournament. The donation was made to three separate funds that benefit veterans, including indigent, homeless/at-risk veterans, and the Care and Share program.
“Donations to these funds help us meet veteran needs that are not included under our health care mission,” stated Medical Center Director, Paul F. Hopkins. “We see veterans who need other kinds of assistance and it’s through partners like the SSGT Eric W. Summers Play for Honor Golf Tournament that we can begin to address the whole picture. Maybe we can help a Veteran get set up in housing, but we can’t assist with towels or bedding. Maybe we can help a Veteran find a job, but we can’t help with the special shoes s/he needs to do the job – that sort of thing. Our communities make a big difference in the lives of our local Veterans, and we have an especially patriotic and generous community. On behalf of our veterans, we thank all who were involved with this benefit.”
Those wishing to donate to veterans may call the medical center at 573-778-4276 and speak to the Center for Development and Civic Engagement.
