Police say a suspected bank robber was apprehended Wednesday morning after leaving a string of stolen bills behind him while fleeing the scene on foot.
Poplar Bluff officers responded to the Southern Bank branch at Sunset and Westwood Boulevard after reports of a midmorning robbery.
“Just before 10 we received a call from Southern Bank that they had just been robbed,” said Capt. JR Keirsey.
William Woodruff, 35, of Poplar Bluff was apprehended while attempting to flee the scene on foot.
Officers did not have to look hard for him, since he was carrying over $4,000 in his arms and leaving a trail of bills behind him, according to reports.
“We had to go back and pick it up afterward,” said Keirsey
Woodruff was reportedly unarmed and was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with first degree robbery.
All stolen money was recovered and no injuries were reported.
Keirsey stated the FBI has been contacted to assist in the investigation.
