RIPLEY COUNTY — Five people were seriously injured Monday afternoon and early Tuesday in a pair of accidents in Ripley County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The first accident occurred at 4:30 p.m. Monday on Highway 142, 10 miles east of Gatewood.
According to the MSHP, William E. Plunk, 87, of Doniphan was operating a 2005 Hyundai Elantra eastbound when it failed to yield to a westbound 2014 Chevrolet Suburban. The second vehicle was operated by Sarah E. Patterson, 24, of Couch. Patterson’s vehicle struck the front of Plunk’s vehicle, according to troopers.
Plunk and a passenger in his vehicle, Barbara L. Plunk, 84, also of Doniphan, both were transported by Medic One to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
The second accident occurred at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 21, eight miles north of Doniphan. According to the MSHP, Amber K. Harris, 31, of Doniphan was operating a 2008 Lincoln MKX southbound when it crossed the center line and struck a northbound 2005 Ford F-150 head-on. The Ford F-150 was operated by Tony J. Redus, 47, of Doniphan.
Harris was taken by Air Evac to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, while Redus and a passenger in his vehicle, Travis W. Redus, 50, of Doniphan, were taken by Survival Flight and Air Evac, respectively, to Region One Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee.
