Shirley Ann (Yeakley) Meyer, 74, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri went home to be with our Lord Dec. 13, 2021. She died peacefully with family at her side in Poplar Bluff.
Shirley was born in Yellow Springs, Ohio on July 10, 1947. She attended Yellow Springs High School until her family moved to Xenia her junior year, where she graduated from Xenia High School. She attended the Max M. Fisher Business College of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
Shirley had a 30+ year career with American Airlines where she started as a reservationist in Cincinnati and worked her way to a Supervisory position in California, where she retired in 2001.
In February of 1977, Shirley was married to William Thomas Meyer. They had one child Erica Ann Meyer.
Shirley and her daughter moved to Poplar Bluff to be closer to her brother Tom Yeakley after the passing of their father. She attended the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff and enjoyed her retirement spending quality time with her family and friends. Her greatest joy was her grandsons and the happiness they added to her life.
Shirley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Erica Ann (Meyer) Crossen and Terry Crossen; two grandsons, Brady Thomas Crossen and Eli Thomas Crossen, all of Poplar Bluff; stepson, Christian Thomas Meyer of Riverside, California; sister-in-law, Donna Yeakley of Poplar Bluff; stepsister, Sandy Miller of Bloomington, Indiana; two nieces and their husbands, Joey and Angela McLane of Poplar Bluff, John and Kim Miller of Poplar Bluff; a great-niece and great-nephew, Marissa and Bryce Cohen of Poplar Bluff and Zack Sexton of Springfield, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul, and Mildred (Sis) Yeakley of Xenia, Ohio; brother, Tom Yeakley of Poplar Bluff; ex-husband, William Meyer of Riverside, California; and a very special aunt, Francis Mitchell of California.
Shirley’s family will only be holding a private service. However in lieu of flowers, any donations can be given to the First Baptist School of Poplar Bluff or the Scorpions Midwest Baseball Team. She truly enjoyed watching her grandson play baseball and she would appreciate such generosity.
