The Neelyville R-IV school board Thursday night approved upcoming events, COVID-19 and flu shot clinics, air conditioning, window screens and a lagoon project.
Superintendent Debra Parish said, “It seems everyone is glad to be back” after each administrator reported a successful beginning of school, with great excitement observed from the students and teachers.
Tiger Fest will be Oct. 16, and, Parish said, “This is a great opportunity for you to do a fundraiser for your class or group. I encourage you to consider having a float for your class or group.”
The Butler County Health Department has planned a clinic on campus Oct. 14 for staff and community patrons. Flu vaccinations will be administered free of charge.
“A big thanks to nurse Chanda Pogue for coordinating this event,” Parish said.
In the COVID-19 update, Parish said, “We have had 11 total positive cases since we started school this year. Currently, we have three positive students, 12 persons in quarantine (three from at-school exposure and nine from in-home exposure). The three at-school exposure persons are able to do their quarantine at school as they have been vaccinated or are wearing masks.”
If the state holds a Beta convention, the board gave Senior Beta the green light to attend.
The board supports the district’s decision to hold the Veterans’ Day program at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12. Classes will dismiss at 1 p.m. Nov. 12 and be closed Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 15-16, for deer season.
Greg Bell, architect from Smith & Co, has completed the proposed plans and the construction permit application for the lagoon upgrade. Plans have been sent to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Water Protection Program, where they will be considered for approval. Once approved, the district will seek bids for the project.
The board approved utilizing the services of the Missouri School Boards’ Association for the development, revision and updates of board policies. The board members reviewed and approved the 2021 policy updates.
The board also adopted the special education compliance plan presented by Mandi Webster.
The updated job descriptions were approved and will be forthcoming to the staff, Parish said,
The district’s goal is to install air in the multipurpose room. The project was included in the ESSER III: American Rescue Plan-Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund Budget submitted to DESE Aug. 23. The district will seek bids once the project is approved from DESE.
Parish reported there are problems with the sound system and recommended a new one be purchased. A board member said, there is a district patron who offered to evaluate the system. The matter was tabled so the individual could be asked to look at the system.
Window screens can be added at Hillview and the board wants to use this activity to provide students an incentive to work toward a goal.
Parish reported, “ We are having problems with the intercom system and we may possibly have to replace it. We are awaiting information from High Tech.”
Tarah Moore was formally hired as an elementary para-professional.
“We are glad to have her join our team,” Parish said.
Tammy Spencer and Teresa Shepard represented the CTA.
In the financial report, the school’s balance for Aug. 1, 2021, was $2,330,751.41 compared to the Aug. 1, 2021 balance of $2,179,066.73.
Revenues for Aug. 1, 2021 were $390,587.02 compared to the Aug. 1, 2020 revenues of $347,490.81.
Expenses for Aug. 1 this year were $250,545.21 compared to expenses for last Aug. 1 of $286,141.83.
Balance on Aug. 31, 2021 was $2,470,793.22 while the balance Aug. 31, 2020, was $2,240,415.71
The next regular board meeting will be Oct. 21.
