Firefighters responded at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, to a report of a backhoe rupturing a natural gas line at 715 Warren St. They stayed on the scene until Spire Gas capped the lines.

Firefighters responded to a call of a hot water heater on fire at 3:23 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, in the 710 W. Victor St. home occupied by Laneta Daughter. Firefighters found nothing, but used a thermal imaging camera and multi-gas meter to check for hot spots and gas leaks. None was detected, and Spire Gas was contacted since the heater was natural gas.

Firefighters responded to a call of a car on fire at 7:28 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Murphy’s Express, 303 S. Westwood Blvd. Store employees put out the fire with an extinguisher, and once firefighters arrived, they used a booster line to cool the engine compartment down.
Floyd L. Robertson, 44, of Wappapello was arrested at 10:59 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25. on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, no valid driver’s license and no insurance. He was booked at the Butler County jail on a 24-hour hold.

Michael D. Hopkins, 69, of Poplar Bluff was arrested at 9:23 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, on suspicion of felony resisting arrest by fleeing and misdemeanor DWI. He was booked at the Butler County jail on a 12-hour hold.
