A Poplar Bluff man was arraigned Thursday on first-degree assault charges stemming from an incident that occurred last month.
David J. Amant, 33, of the 200 block of North Eighth Street, is accused of breaking his brother’s collarbone in an altercation.
According to the probable cause statement, Poplar Bluff Police Officer Andrew Cleveland was contacted May 9 at the Poplar Bluff Police Department by the alleged victim. Officers were told the pair got into a verbal altercation the day before that became physical.
The alleged victim said Amant punched him and the two began to grapple, with the other man stating Amant threw him to the ground and repeatedly brought his elbow down on the alleged victim’s shoulder. The reporting party said Amant then punched him several more times before another family member broke up the fight.
The alleged victim said that he sought medical attention for injuries received in the altercation, including a broken clavicle (collarbone).
Amant’s bond has been set at $25,000. He is being held at the Butler County jail.
