POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT

Firefighters responded twice Friday, June 11, to the Poplar Bluff High School, 3209 Oak Grove Road, to a malfunctioning alarm.

The first call was at 9:38 p.m. Firefighters opened the knox box and went to the alarm panel, which showed a smoke detector in the duct work sounding. School maintenance arrived on the scene and reset the alarm and it was determined the recent storms caused a power surge to set the alarm off.The alarm system sounded again at 10:37 p.m. Firefighters and the school maintenance personnel responded again. The alarm system was taken offline until further notice.

Firefighters responded at 3:24 p.m. Saturday, June 12, to the 1200 block of Velma to investigate a strange odor. Nothing was found.

Firefighters responded Thursday, June 10, to a structure fire at a two-story house at 419 W. Henry St. When they arrived, there was heavy smoke. Municipal Utilities and the gas company were notified. An interior attack began with fire mostly found in the living room and the second floor. Firefighters used 1,500 gallons of water to put out the fire.

Firefighters responded at 1:50 p.m. Sunday, June 13, to an alarm at Kentucky Fried Chicken, 1211 N. Westwood Blvd. There was no smoke or fire. After checking the building and talking with management, a duct had fallen through the ceiling in the dining area and it was dripping water. The fire alarm company was called and the alarm system sounded due to a malfunction.

Firefighters responded at 9:34 p.m. Sunday, June 13, to an unauthorized fire in the 900 block of Cole. They found a large burn site in the backyard of a residence. Firefighters a extinguished the fire with 50 gallons of water, and the occupants were informed of the city’s burn ordinance.
