Poplar Bluff Firefighters responded at 9:50 a.m. Friday, May 28, to the 2000 block of Woodland to a carbon monoxide detector activation due to a malfunction. Firefighters were met by the resident explaining the detector was in the basement. The resident recently had the gas hot water heater replaced, and no CO was detected. The resident was advised to replace the detector.

Upon arrival in the area, the crew found a small unauthorized burn behind the residence at 1626 N. 14th St. Firefighters used 15 gallons of water to extinguish the fire and advised the occupant of the city burn ordinance.
