Poplar Bluff’s R.W. Huntington Municipal Pool will open to the public Friday.

The pool will officially open for the season at 12:45 p.m., and admission this year will be $2 per child age 17 and younger, or $3 for adults.

Open swim hours will be from 1-5 p.m. every day of the week, according to the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department, which oversees the pool.

In addition, the pool will be open for lap swimming from noon until 1 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with a cost of $1 per person age 18 and younger or $2 for those over age 19 and up.

Family Swim Night will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. every Thursday, with a cost of $5 per family, which includes immediate family members living in the same household.

Season passes are available for $25 per individual or $50 for a family. With the family pass, immediate household members with proof of residency are eligible, and up to five people can be on one plan. Beyond five people, an additional $2 per person will be charged.

Pool parties also can be booked by contacting the Parks and Recreation Department at 573-686-8645. Rates this season will be $50 per hour, with a two-hour minimum for up to 30 people.

Water aerobics and swim lessons also will be available at the pool this summer.

The 45-minute water aerobic exercise program is designed for stretching, toning, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, fun and meets all the guidelines of a well-balanced aerobic workout, according to organizers.

It will take place from noon until 12:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 7-30, with a cost of $3 per session, $30 for a 10-session pass or $60 for a full season pass.

Registration for swim lessons begins Tuesday, and there will be three classes offered this summer.

Sessions will be held June 14-24, July 5-15 and July 19-29. Hours vary by age and experience.

Those wishing to sign up for swim lessons are asked to call the park department office.

Visitors this season will notice several improvements at the Huntington Pool, including major renovations to both the interior and exterior of the poolhouse and a new shaded area near the pool for those wishing to stay out of the sum.
