Lavern Whalen 97, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri passed away Sunday May 23, 2021.
Lavern Whalen was born December 19, 1923 to Carl and Iva Kearbey in Williamsville, Missouri. She married Laurence Whalen on April 12, 1947.
Lavern taught school in Poplar Bluff, Missouri for many years. She had a great passion for teaching and always thought of her students as her own children. Outside of teaching Lavern enjoyed crocheting, gardening, flowers, many different crafts and quilt making. Lavern also loved all her nieces and nephews as her kids.
Lavern is survived by one brother, Verdis Livesin of Arkansas; one sister, Lorene Wood of Cape Girardeau; many nieces and nephews including Carolyn Wood and Megan Wood great niece, of the home.
Lavern was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene, Lyndle, Lyle, Daris; three sisters, Alpha, Geraldine and Charlotte.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 1 from 1-2 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Cotrell Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff. Officiating by JC Bryant and Glen Hamelton. Burial will take place at Kearbey Chapel Cemetery in Poplar Bluff. Cotrell Funeral Service is proud to serve the family and friends of Lavern Whalen.
