POPLAR BLUFF FIRE DEPARTMENT
City firefighters responded at 10:21 a.m. Monday, April 5, to a report of a motor vehicle accident at 601 N. Westwood. According to the report, a vehicle had struck a light pole and the occupant was able to get out of the vehicle on his own power. The occupant was transported from the scene by Butler County EMS. Municipal Utilities crews arrived and repaired the broken electrical connections. Firefighters remained on scene until the vehicle was removed from the roadway.

City firefighters responded at 1 p.m. Monday, April 5, to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Shelby Road. According to the report, crews were canceled after arrival after being informed it was a hit and run.

City firefighters responded at 7:22 p.m. Monday, April 5, to a report of a brush or grass fire at 818 S. D St. According to the report, firefighters arrived and discovered a small brush and trash fire in a vacant lot. The fire was extinguished and crews cleared the scene.

Timothy Jesse Blake Sweaney, 31, of the 2100 block of Woods Street was arrested at 11:30 p.m. Monday, April 4, near County Road 467. According to the report, around 11 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed going northbound on Shelby Road.
While attempting a traffic stop, the vehicle displayed a turn signal, indicating that it was pulling over. At the intersection of Shelby and Roxie Road, the vehicle ran a red light and proceeded westbound on Roxie Road, officers reported.
After chasing the vehicle, the suspect turned on to County Road 405, which is a dead-end.
The officer reportedly slowed down due to visibility issues when the subject’s car arrived on the gravel portion of County Road 405.
While searching for the vehicle, the dust cleared and the officer became aware of a large curve in the road.
After applying his breaks, the officer’s vehicle ran into a fence. The officer then observed the suspect vehicle traveling eastbound toward the officer on County Road 405.
The officer exited his patrol car and tried to get the suspect to stop to no avail, police reports say. Other officers were alerted to the chase and one officer observed a car matching the suspect vehicle’s description travelling at a high rate of speed on County Road 467, where he began pursuit. The chase ended in a construction area where the suspect fled on foot and was finally taken into custody.
The suspect was arrested on a warrant for a parole violation and charged on suspicion of failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, exceeding the posted speed limit, failure to obey a traffic device, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting or interfering with arrest. He was transported to the Butler County jail.

Andre Gurganious, 45, of the 800 block of Henderson was arrested at 4:20 p.m. Monday, April 5, for violation of ex parte/full order of protection. According to the report, the suspect had been issued an order of protection at 11:30 a.m. April 5. Around 4 p.m. the petitioner of the order of protection called police and told them that Gurganious was in their backyard. Upon arrival, officers allegedly found Gurganious laying in the backyard at the location without his shoes or pants. Officers allowed Gurganious to put his clothes on and placed him under arrest and transported him to the Butler County jail.

Justin Lewis Summers, 38, of the 900 block of Second Street was booked at the Butler County jail Monday, April 5, for a failure to appear warrant for arrears in excess of 12 monthly payments due under a support order.

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL
A seventeen-year-old juvenile suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 3:20 p.m. Monday, April 5, on Route J, 5 miles west of Malden.
According to the report, a 2004 Ford Ranger, operated by the juvenile from Malden, was making a right turn off Route J when a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by fifty-seven-year-old Paul D. Beck from Malden, struck the juvenile’s vehicle in the rear. Beck was driven from the scene while the 17-year-old juvenile was transported by ambulance to Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Arkansas, with minor injuries.

Heather M. James, 43, of Branson West, Missouri, was arrested at 1:40 p.m. Monday, April 5, on suspicion of DWI. James was booked at the Butler County jail and released.

Travontae L. Stevenson, 20, of Hayti was arrested at 8:40 a.m. Monday, April 5, on suspicion of felony resisting arrest, and two Pemiscot County warrants for assault and rape. Stevenson was booked at the Dunklin County jail.

Michael R. Pruneau, 52, of Neelyville was arrested at 6:42 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, on suspicion of DWI-drugs, careless and imprudent driving involving a crash, and failure to drive on the right side of the roadway. Pruneau was booked at the Stoddard County jail on a 12-hour hold.
