City firefighters responded at 9:26 a.m. Thursday, March 11, to a report of an unauthorized fire at 1337 Meadows Lane. According to the report, firefighters discovered a fire in the back of the residence. The structure was being remodeled and the construction crew on scene were informed of the city’s ordinance on controlled burns. Firefighters extinguished the fire using 25 gallons of water and cleared the scene.

City firefighters responded at 7:26 a.m. Thursday, March 11, to a report of arcing electrical wiring. According to the report, crews observed an outlet that was arcing. The owner of building was notified and came to shut off power to the outlet. Firefighters cleared the scene.

City firefighters responded at 12:09 a.m. Friday, March 12, to a report of a structure fire. According to the report, crews spoke with occupants of the building and were informed that clothing inside an open closet had caught fire from a burning cigarette. Occupants had removed the burning clothes and placed them in a bathtub to extinguish the fire. Firefighters observed no damage to the residence and occupants had already set up fans to clear smoke form the residence. After firefighters obtained pertinent information, they cleared the scene.

__POPLAR BLUFF POLICE DEPARTMENT__

Eric Scott Brown, 39, of the 1800 block of North 14th Street was arrested at 2:51 p.m. Thursday, March 11, after officers obtained security footage from Walmart after an employee reported his phone stolen. Officers recognized the suspect, according to his report, and went to his residence, where he was questioned. He was placed under arrest and booked at the Butler County jail.

Ronald Brian Burgess, 36, of the 2100 block of Highway 142 was booked at the Butler County jail on Thursday, March 11, on suspicion of second-degree domestic assault.

Thomas Everett Eskridge, 53, of the 600 block of Cherry Street was booked at the Butler County jail on Thursday, March 11, on suspicion of failure to register as a sex offender.

Kylea Jean Hunter, 18, of the 1700 block of County Road 429 was booked at the Butler County jail on Thursday, March 11, on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

James Anthony Kirchner, 33, of the 2400 block of Thomas Street was booked at the Butler County jail on Thursday, March 11, on suspicion of first-degree assault.

Rodney Leon Sparkman, 47, of the 100 block of Kinzer Street was booked at the Butler County jail on Thursday, March 11, on two failure to appear warrants, third-degree domestic assault and felonious restraint.

Stephanie Lynn Welsh, 35, of the 1400 block of County Road 608 was booked at the Butler County jail on Thursday, March 11, on three failure to appear warrants, failure to register a vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without maintaining financial responsibility and possession of a controlled substance.

__MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL__

A 79-year-old man suffered minor injuries in a single-vehicle crash at 1:57 p.m. Thursday, March 11, on Highway 60 west of County Road 336. According to the report, Delmar L. Evans was operating a 1987 Ford F150 westbound on Highway 60 when it traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment. Evans was transported to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Cente. for treatment.
