A 20-year-old Broseley man has been detained in the weekend break-in at Twin Rivers High School and charges are expected to be filed Tuesday afternoon.

Dillon Michael Smith, 20, of 2549 County Road 650, Fisk, was arrested on suspicion of breaking into the school’s bus garage and stealing a one-ton truck and tools from the garage and vehicle. He is being held in Butler County jail pending charges.

Butler County Chief Deputy Wesley Popp said three witnesses came forward to provide details that helped locate stolen items inside an outhouse at 5068 County Road 220. Investigators located a stolen tool, a grinder, on the ground outside the property and sought a search warrant. Investigators executed the search warrant Monday afternoon and recovered most of the stolen items.

The theft was discovered by the school’s maintenance supervisor Jeff Snyder at about 5:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Popp said the value of the items was $8,000.

According to Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs, “The truck was later returned nearby to the school but witnesses had seen the truck parked at the aforementioned property.”

Smith was booked at Butler County jail on charges of burglary, stealing and tampering with a vehicle, according to arrest records.
