Kaylee Meyers of Doniphan is this year’s recipient of the Rose Abbott Memorial Scholarship.
Meyers graduated from the LPN school at Black River Technical College in December 2020 and will begin the RN bridge program at Black River Technical College in January. She plans to receive her RN degree in December 2021.
“I chose to become a nurse because I have always had a passion for caring and helping others. My grandma, mother and aunt are also all nurses. They have inspired me to follow their footsteps into the field of nursing. Becoming a nurse has always been a dream of mine since I was a little girl and I’m thankful to be able to live my dream. My family has been a huge support when it came to making this dream come true,” Meyers said.
Her parents are Corey and Stephanie Meyers and she has a younger sister, Kelsey Meyers. She and her fiance Tyler Crumley are planning an October wedding.
“I am truly honored to have been chosen for this scholarship,” she said.
The first scholarship was awarded in 2003. All 19 recipients have graduated with their RN degrees and some with their bachelor of science in nursing. Although the scholarship is named in memory of Rose, this year the family chose to present it in honor of all COVID-19 frontline workers.
