City firefighters responded at 9:27 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, to a malfunctioning alarm at the 628 N. Ninth St. residence occupied by Dorian Barker. It was investigation only.

City firefighters responded at 7:32 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, to a report of a kitchen fire at the 605 Maple St. residence occupied by Melanie Watkins and owned by Marty Michel.
According to the report, firefighters found smoke coming from the residence upon their arrival.
Upon entering, firefighters reportedly found a small fire in the kitchen. The kitchen cabinets and knobs on the stove were burning.
Firefighters used one gallon of water to put out the fire and set up a positive-pressure-ventilation fan to remove the smoke from the residence.
The fire damaged the stove, cabinets and vent hood, and there was smoke damage in the residence.
Watkins reported she was cooking and had left the room, forgetting the food on the stove. When she returned, the cabinets and stove reportedly were on fire.

According to the report, a small area, on state right-of-way, burned.

According to the report, firefighters found the fire was a controlled burn.

County firefighters responded at 9:32 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, to a gas leak at 184 Heron Lane residence owned by Thomas Mace.
According to the report, a gas line had ruptured inside the home, and Mace had shut off the gas prior to the arrival of the fire department.

County firefighters responded at 4:47 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, to a fire involving a kitchen stove at 500 E. Henry.
According to the report, the fire was out upon the fire department’s arrival. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted.
