City firefighters responded to a call at 4:36 a.m. Monday, July 27, of a motor-vehicle accident at Highland Drive and Westwood Boulevard. Upon their arrival, firefighters found police and EMS crews already had attended to the vehicles’ occupants.

City firefighters responded to a call at 6:02 p.m. Sunday, July 26, of a vehicle fire at the intersection of B and E streets.

Upon their arrival, firefighters found a Ford pickup, owned by Samuel Freeman, fully involved. They used 372 gallons of water to put out the fire.

City firefighters responded at 5:07 p.m. Sunday, July 26, to a call of an unauthorized burn at 711 Davis St. Firefighters found the home’s occupants burning trash and told them about the city’s burn ordinance.

City firefighters responded to a call at 2:47 p.m. Sunday, July 26, of an unauthorized burn at the 631 N. Ninth Street home owned by Karla Collard.

Firefighters found the owner burning brush and plywood. After explaining the city’s burn ordinance, they removed the plywood and allowed the owner to continue burning the remaining brush.

City firefighters responded a 2:09 p.m. Sunday, July 26, to a call of an unauthorized burn at the 1510 Wallace St. home occupied by Stacy Gipson.

Upon their arrival, firefighters found the occupant burning trash in a ditch. They explained the city’s burn ordinance and used 13 gallons of water to put out the fire.

City firefighters responded to a call at 11:16 a.m. Sunday, July 26, of a structure fire at the 1710 Wallace St. home owned by Cedrick Thomas.

Upon their arrival, firefighters were told there had been smoke coming from the home’s air conditioner vents, and the owner had cut the power to the unit.

After removing the blower unit cover, firefighters found melted wires and advised the owner to keep the power off until the unit could be repaired.

On their way back to station No. 3 on Highway 53 from another call at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, July 25, city firefighters found a man on the side of Butler Street with blood coming from his forehead. The man said he had fallen on the concrete and firefighters called for police and EMS to assist.

City firefighters responded to a call at 5:21 p.m. Saturday, July 25, of a grass fire in the 800 block of Benton. Upon their arrival, firefighters found a small grass fire burning next to the road and used 20 gallons of water to extinguish it.

County firefighters responded at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, July 25, to fire involving a baler at 1002 Highway F.

According the report, the fire destroyed the baler and burned two acres of grass. The owner was Steven Green.
