Bass Tournaments

There are a couple of fishing tournaments coming up this weekend. You’ll have to pick your flavor, however, because they are both on the same day.

On Saturday, the Current River Smallmouth Association will host its annual King of the River tournament, based out of Van Buren.

The tournament is sponsored by the Carter County Nutrition Center and will kick off at 7 a.m.

Anglers can launch from either the Watercress ramp north of town or at the Big Spring ramp.

The weigh-in is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Watercress ramp.

The other tournament is one hosted Saturday by the Wappapello Bass Circuit.

The event is scheduled to take off at 6 a.m. from the Redman Creek ramp.

Fishing is scheduled to conclude at 2 p.m., followed by a weigh-in at Redman Creek.

As always, the pre-event meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Wappapello VFW to assign boat numbers.

Questions about the tournament can be referred to Justun Buchanan at 573-429-6312.

Application Deadline

Finally, don’t forget about Missouri’s upcoming managed deer hunt application deadline if you plan to apply and haven’t done so yet.

All applications must be done online at mdc.mo.gov by July 31.

The results of the drawings will be published on that website beginning Aug. 15.
