FARMINGTON, Mo. — An autopsy completed Wednesday morning on a Qulin man revealed he died of smoke inhalation.
Firefighters found Kenneth Furr, 75, inside his trailer in the 500 block of First Street after putting out a fire, which had been reported at about 1:15 a.m. Monday.
The autopsy performed by Dr. Russell Deidiker at Farmington determined Furr’s cause of death.
Authorities say Furr’s trailer was fully engulfed when they arrived, with flames coming out of the windows, Qulin Assistant Chief Christopher Wright said earlier.
Furr, according to Butler County Deputy Matt Cagle’s report, was found in what appeared to be the kitchen area of his home.
Cagle said he was told Furr suffered mobility issues and recently had been in and out of a nursing home facility.
Qulin Marshal Michael Lashley reported having responded to Furr’s residence for multiple well being checks and to assist Furr due to him falling and being unable to get up.
An investigator with the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
The cause is not known at this time, but, Cagle said, Butler County Coroner Moore spoke with Furr’s sister-in-law, who reported “previous incidents in the past while he was cooking, and she though that might have been what started the fire.”
Furr also reportedly was a smoker.
