City firefighters responded at 11:53 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, to a report of a dumpster fire at the Dollar General Store, 903 Highway 53.
According to the report, firefighters found a dumpster and carts of cardboard on fire and used 100 gallons of water to put out the fire.

City firefighters responded at 2:31 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, to assist residents needing help entering their locked home at 519 Nickey St.
According to the report, a police officer told firefighters an elderly couple and their caregiver had locked a screen door in front of an exterior door and couldn’t access the home. They also reportedly were unable to access another door due to chain-link fence and locked gate.
A firefighter reportedly was able to climb the fence and unlock that door with a key and then open a garage door to allow the couple and its caregiver inside.

According to the report, firefighters assisted emergency-medical-services personnel.
