City firefighters responded at 9:11 p.m. Thursday, May 14, to a structure fire at the 217 N. C St. residence occupied by Denise McNeal and Robert Murph and owned by Clyde Helton.
According to the report, firefighters found smoking showing and fire visible on one side of the wood-frame structure.
Firefighters set up a positive-pressure ventilation fan at the front door and broke a window on one side of the home for ventilation.
Firefighters used 2,000 gallons of water to put out the fire. The department’s thermal-imaging camera was used to check for hot spots.
Municipal Utilities and Spire personnel responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

City firefighters responded at 12:54 p.m. Thursday, May 14, to a report of people stuck in an elevator at 508 Bartlett St.
According to the report, four people were stuck in the elevator on the first floor after the door started to open, then stopped.
Poplar Bluff Housing Authority maintenance personnel turned off power to the elevator and then back on to reset it. The door opened once the controls were reset.
