City firefighters responded at 7:40 p.m. Monday, May 11, to a report of a vehicle fire at 415 W. Midland.
According to the report, the fire in a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan was out upon the fire department’s arrival.
The van’s owner, Charles Counts, reported he had just purchased the van and brought it home when wiring under the dash started smoking. Flames also were visible.
Counts reportedly used water and his hands to put out the fire.
Firefighters used the department’s thermal-imaging camera to check for any hidden fire. None was found.

City firefighters responded at 6:56 p.m. Monday, May 11, to a report of smoke behind Mansion Mall.
According to the report, firefighters found several residents on Euel Road burning leaves. The residents were told to have the fires out by dark.

City firefighters responded at 4:16 p.m. Monday, May 11, to a motor-vehicle crash at 368 N. Sixth St.
According to the report, firefighters found the rear end of a vehicle suspended in the air on a utility pole guide wire.
There was one person still inside the car, and firefighters and emergency-medical-services personnel removed the occupant.
Municipal Utility personnel responded to the scene to check the integrity of the pole and wire before the car was removed.
Firefighters stood by until the car was back on the ground and loaded onto a wrecker.

City firefighters responded at 2:03 p.m. Monday, May 11, to a report of a fire involving a stove at the 905 Mulberry St. residence occupied by Mary Bodwell.
According to the report, the fire was out upon the arrival of the fire department.
Bodwell reported a small amount of grease had caught fire while she was cooking, and she smothered the fire by placing a container over it.

County firefighters responded at 9:02 p.m. Monday, May 11, to a vehicle fire on Highway T near Highway RA at Wappapello.
According to the report, a 2002 Dodge Intrepid, owned by Sarah McGee, was destroyed.
