The Poplar Bluff R-I School District is planning ways to offer learning opportunities to students while on break due to COVID-19.

Dr. Scott Dill, superintendent, announced to families on Monday that teachers at all grade levels will start reaching out to students this week “to establish connections so that we can continue to move learning forward.”

Teachers will establish virtual office hours during which they will be available for students. During this time, they’ll be able to work with students to the best of their ability given the situation, Dill said.

“This distance learning initiative is not school, nor is it intended as a replacement for school. Instead, this is a support system for our students in a time of need,” he said.

Parents are encouraged to check their email for communications from district teachers. Dill said this initiative will look different based on the student’s grade level, but all of it starts with reconnecting with the teachers.

Dill said parents are encouraged to check with the teachers or building principals with any questions.

“I want you to know that as a parent myself, I understand the stresses on our families right now,” he said. “We want to be here to support your children in their learning. We also understand if you need to focus on other areas of your life. This initiative is an opportunity, not an obligation.”
