Sam “Samella” Eller Starks, 105, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. entered Heaven’s gates March 31, 2020.
She was born to the late Sam and Nellie Starks Oct. 12, 1914 in Holly Springs, Miss.
She accepted Christ at a very young age. She is a member of the Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She loved her church family and especially her pastor and first lady “Bishop Ron and Dr. Georgia Webb. She did not mind praising the Lord. She often raised and waved her hands in church in agreement with the word.
Samella enjoyed going to all church functions, praying for the ministry and its leaders, spending time with loved ones, fashion and shopping for jewelry “bling.”
She had no biological children but had an incredible love for children and family in particular, but two spiritual daughters who helped to take care of her: Betty (Alvin) Flowers and Martessa (Chad) Woods, both of Poplar Bluff, Mo., her Pastor and First Lady Bishop Ron and Dr. Georgia Webb of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and a number of other loving relatives and close friends. She lived independently until she was almost 100 years old, at which time she required skilled nursing care and went to live at Cedargate Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Although our hearts are saddened, we cannot mention her passing without acknowledging, honoring, and celebrating the amazing life she lived. Her love and devotion to Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church is a testament to the love of Christ. She was often imparting hope and wisdom to everyone who encountered her. She was a faithful prayer warrior, and a dedicated “spiritual” mother to many and will be greatly missed.
Samella fought a good fight, finished the race, kept the faith, and is now embracing her exceedingly great reward in heaven.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Sam and Nellie Starks, her sister: Estella Clay, and two brothers: Martlee Starks ad Johnny Starks.
