City firefighters responded at 8:28 p.m. Monday, March 30, to a report of smoke in the area of Lester and Selma streets.

According to the report, firefighters found a pile of leaves with carpet mixed in burning beside the road at the 803 Kinzer St., occupied by Darla Gunn.

Firefighters used 20 gallons of water to put out the fire and told Gunn about the city’s burn ordinance.

City firefighters responded at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, to a report of smoke in the 2627 Forest View residence occupied by Haley Harwell and owned by Dean Million.

According to the report, Harwell told firefighters the furnace had a smoke odor coming from its vents.

A firefighter entered he crawl space under the house to check the unit, while other firefighter(s) donned protective equipment and entered the home.

The unit reportedly was turned on, and it ran normally; however, an odor was detected under the house.

Firefighters shut down the unit and told Harwell to have her landlord check the unit before using it again.

City firefighters responded at 8:34 p.m. to a report of a stove on fire at the 801 Clare Ave. residence occupied by Opreha Ferguson and owned by Claire Hendrix.

According to the report, firefighters found light smoke inside the residence.

Upon entering, firefighters found the stove had flames coming from its cook top and under its top cover.

Firefighters disconnected the power and put the fire out.

The stove reportedly was damaged, and Ferguson was told not to plug it back in.
