Shirley Ann Livingston, 87, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Poplar Bluff Regional Hospital, with her family at her side.

Shirley was born Oct. 23, 1932, in Flint, Mich., the daughter of Howard and Mary (Jackson) Harrelson. On Aug. 21, 1956, she married Floyd Livingston Sr. Together they shared 59 years of marriage before his passing on Feb. 27, 2016.

Shirley earned her master’s degree in education and taught in the Poplar Bluff school district for over 40 years in various capacities.

She thrived outdoors. Over the years, Shirley loved gardening and cultivating flowers of every kind, reading books in her hammock, and spending time with her beloved dog Max and the many strays she adopted into her care.

She dedicated herself to being present in the lives of her children and grandchildren, often sending cards to and spoiling her great-grandchildren.

She was the epitome of a strong woman—the perfect grandmother for a group of girls.

Her independent and strong-willed nature was evident in everything she did. She inspired her granddaughters to dream and live fully.

In the last years of her life, Shirley could be found with her McDonald’s Dr. Pepper every morning, running errands, or out shopping with her dear friend Barbara Smith.

She was and will continue to be immeasurably loved and treasured by her family. They find comfort knowing she is reunited with her husband and loved ones, and that they will see her again in Heaven.

Survivors include her children, Floyd E. (YaLonda) Livingston Jr. of Poplar Bluff and Howard Dennis Livingston of Van Buren, Mo.; grandchildren, Chelsea (Marcus) Ashdown of Dallas, Texas, Megan (Ted) Walker of St. Louis, Mo., Jennifer (Fred) Millner of Poplar Bluff, Erin (Scott) Sanders of Poplar Bluff, Cameron Gilham of Poplar Bluff and Logan Gilham of Poplar Bluff and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by a brother, Shirl Harrelson.

A private service celebrating Shirley’s life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Moore Funeral Service in Poplar Bluff.
