Kroger in Poplar Bluff has awarded a $3,000 grant to Southeast Missouri Food Bank to provide truck-to-table mobile food pantry distributions.
Funding will supply Butler County families with nutritious food through three mobiles to be held near the Kroger grocery store. Each mobile serves an average of 200 families.
One in six households and one in five children in Butler County struggles with hunger. This translates into more than 7,000 individuals in Butler County, who may not know where their next meal is coming from.
“Kroger’s donation will help us reach struggling families, covering food and freight, for mobile food pantry distributions to meet our neighbors’ most immediate needs,” said Joey Keys, President and CEO of Southeast Missouri Food Bank. “From food donations to grant dollars, Kroger is committed to helping our local community and being part of the solution to end hunger.”
“We know that meals matter, and it’s imperative that we help feed and support Southeast Missourians,” said Joel Frye, Kroger’s Store Manager.
Along with financial support, Kroger also donates food to SEMO Food Banks to support their agency network – in Poplar Bluff.
Some of the many agencies that SEMO Food Bank serves in Poplar Bluff include, Bread Shed, Friends Ministry, Child Concern Center, St. Vincent De Paul, Northside Nutrition Center, Holy Cross Episcopal Church, United Gospel Mission, Feed and Seed Food Pantry and New Covenant Fellowship Pantry.
