The Cane Creek Club held a heartfelt meeting Feb. 19 at the home of Wilma Rains.
The meeting was called to order by praying “The Lord’s Prayer” and reciting the Pledge to the Allegiance.
The roll call, telling a New Year’s resolution, was answered by the four members present.
Glenda Phillips presented the devotional about George Washington and one of his prayers. It was decided that she would read a presidential prayer each month.
Phillips continued by giving a history of Valentine’s Day. She described Saint Valentine and told about the history of some of the Valentine candy.
She reminded the members Poplar Bluff in the past had a Russell Stover’s factory, where the heart shaped boxes were constructed. Phillips remembered the club touring the building, and she had found it fascinating how much work went into making these boxes.
A short business meeting followed with the secretary’s and treasurer’s report given.
In old business, Phillips showed the fully completed quilt top worked last month. The group decided instead of tacking this quilt, it will be machine quilted. The quilts made by the club are donated to fire victims or anyone else in need. Anyone in need of quilt is asked to contact a club member.
In new business, the agenda for next month was decided as follows: meet at 1:30 p.m. March 11 Rain’s house; roll call, tell a good or bad habit you have; devotional by Phillips; and program by Nancy Wujcik on the book “Atomic Habits.”
The meeting adjourned and the group continued to visit.
