Both Poplar Bluff and Qulin will see contested races for city positions in the April 7 election.
Filing for these positions closed Tuesday.
Poplar Bluff will have two at-large seats, and a Ward 5 seat.
Incumbent Robert Smith is the only candidate to file for Ward 5, but nine candidates have filed for at large.
They include incumbent Steve Davis, currently serving as mayor pro tem. Incumbent Ron Black did not file for re-election.
Robert E. Durbin filed for at large Tuesday, while candidate Laura Murrell withdrew her application, also on Tuesday, keeping the total number of at-large candidates at nine.
Challengers also include Brent Eason, Christine Taylor, Logan Gilham, Jim Chrisman, former Ward 5 representative Peter Tinsley, Robert Duckett and Chester Pumphrey.
No additional information concerning new filings had been released by Poplar Bluff officials as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The residents of Qulin are looking at a contested race for their mayoral seat.
Two had filed for the seat as of noon Tuesday. Current mayor Glen Sedrick will run for re-election and face against Douglas Ledbetter.
Qulin also has an open seat for Wards 1 and 2. Both the incumbents — Cheryl Johnson for Ward 1 and Mary Martin for Ward 2 — filed for re-election.
Meanwhile, in Fisk, two of the three incumbents filed for re-election.
John B. Murray will run for the mayoral seat again and Doug Mosbey filed for the Ward 2 seat he holds.
There is also a Ward 2 seat open, held by Rick Adams, for which Roberta Carmack has filed. She will run uncontested.
In Neelyville, the Ward 1 seat held by Linda Harris and the Ward 2 seat held by Darold Moran are open. The city hall could not be reached by the time of press to receive information about filings.
