The field of candidates for two at-large seats on the Poplar Bluff City Council continues to grow. Residents Laura J. Murrell filed Thursday and Christine Taylor filed Friday afternoon to run in the April 7 election. The field of candidates for two at-large seats on the Poplar Bluff City Council continues to grow.

Residents Laura J. Murrell filed Thursday and Christine Taylor filed Friday afternoon to run in the April 7 election.

Murrell and Taylor face Logan Gilham, Jim Chrisman, former Ward 5 representative Peter Tinsley, Robert Duckett and Chester Pumphrey on the ballot, as well as incumbent Steve Davis.

Davis is finishing his first term as an at-large council member.

The term of at-large council member Ron Black is also ending. Black has not filed for re-election, and has said he is uncertain if he will.

Ward 5 representative Robert Smith, who is currently mayor, remains unopposed in the seat he has held for multiple terms.

Each new term will be for three years.

Filing opened Dec. 17 and remains open until Jan. 21.

Filing can be done at the Office of the City Clerk, 501 Vine Street, Poplar Bluff, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the last day of filing.
